About Split Circle
We built it in India after Splitwise started charging for basic features.
How it started
It started on a trip to Goa.
Five friends. One group chat. And a spreadsheet that took longer to update than the trip itself.
By the end, nobody knew who owed what. The spreadsheet had errors. And the conversations about money were more awkward than the 14-hour train ride.
We tried Splitwise. It worked, sort of. But it wanted $40/year for features we thought should be free. It didn't work offline, and half of India doesn't have reliable internet. And it felt like an accounting tool, not something designed for friends.
So we built Split Circle. An app where the circle comes first and the money comes second. Free, offline, no ads, no guilt.
Because if tracking shared expenses costs money, something is broken.
Why we built it
Money should be invisible between friends. Split Circle is for when the expense app itself becomes the argument.
Built in India, for the world
India is where 350 million people split expenses every day. Where UPI processes 12 billion transactions a month. Where friends split everything from chai to rent to weddings.
If you can build an expense app that works for India, with its diversity of languages, currencies, connectivity gaps, and the sheer complexity of splitting a wedding bill among 47 relatives, you can build it for anywhere.
Four things we won't compromise on
Free means free
No daily limits, no ads, no data selling. Core expense splitting costs you nothing.
Offline-first
Your expense app should work at 14,000 feet in the mountains with zero signal.
Privacy by default
No public social feed of your transactions. No sharing data with advertisers. Your finances are yours.
Friendship first
We built a friendship app that handles money, not a finance app that tolerates friends.
