Privacy Policy

Split Circle is an expense-splitting app built by Techreceptives Int. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it. We keep things simple. We do not sell your data.

1. What we collect

Account data. When you create an account, we store your email address and a hashed password. Your display name and profile photo are optional.

Expense and group data. We store the groups you create, the expenses you add, the amounts, descriptions, and the members you invite. This is the core of the service.

Device and usage data. We collect basic analytics (device type, OS version, app version, general region) to understand how the app is used and to fix bugs. We use Google Analytics with anonymized IP addresses. We do not track individual behavior across third-party sites.

Group members without accounts. If you add someone to a group without an account, we store only their name and the expense amounts tied to them. They are not required to sign up to be part of a group.

2. How we use your data

To operate the service: sync your groups and expenses across devices.
To send you notifications about new expenses or settlements (only if you enable them).
To improve the product: understand which features get used, catch crashes.
To contact you about your account (security notices, major product changes).

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not build profiles for sale.

3. Third-party services

Firebase (Google). We use Firebase for authentication and real-time data sync. Your data is stored on Firebase infrastructure in Google Cloud. Firebase's privacy policy applies: firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

Google Analytics. We use GA4 with IP anonymization enabled. This gives us aggregate usage metrics (sessions, screen views, feature usage). No personally identifiable information is sent to Google Analytics. You can opt out via your browser's Google Analytics opt-out extension.

4. Data retention

We keep your data as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days. Expense records tied to groups with other active members may be retained in an anonymized form to preserve the integrity of those group records.

Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics defaults (14 months).

5. Your rights

You can:

Access and export your data from within the app.
Update or correct your account information at any time.
Request deletion of your account and associated data.
Withdraw consent for optional notifications.

6. Children

Split Circle is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we'll revise the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll notify you in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
